Person-Centred Therapy

Not every reason to start therapy comes with a name attached. Sometimes you just know something needs to change, or you want a steady, non-judgmental space to think out loud with someone who isn't trying to fix you or steer you toward a particular outcome. Person-centred therapy starts from the belief that you already have what you need to move forward, and that the right kind of support can help you find it.

How person-centred therapy works

Person-centred therapy (sometimes called client-centred therapy) is built around three core conditions: genuine empathy, unconditional positive regard, and a therapist who shows up as a real person rather than a distant expert. Rather than following a fixed program or diagnosing a problem to solve, this approach follows your lead—you set the pace and the direction, and the therapeutic relationship itself becomes the space where change happens.

Many of our clinicians draw on person-centred principles alongside more structured approaches, including our work with trauma and PTSD, BPD, and DBT — so if you're looking for a person-centred foundation specifically, or simply want therapy that isn't organized around a particular technique, this is a good place to start.

Who this is for

This approach is often a good fit for adults who relate to:

  • Wanting a space to talk that isn't built around a specific technique or protocol

  • A general sense that something feels off, without a clear label attached to it

  • Anxiety, low mood, or a difficult life transition

  • A preference for therapy that follows your lead rather than a fixed curriculum

  • Wanting the therapeutic relationship itself, not a specific method, to be the foundation of the work
