Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples

The gold standard of couple therapy, EFT is highly effective at reducing couple distress, and strengthening the attachment bond that characterizes love-based relationships. While practicing EFT for couples, your therapist works with you and your partner to identify the behaviours that keep you both stuck in cycles of conflict in your relationship, while also supporting each of you in getting at the more tender emotions that often drive these hurtful cycles. And when a partner is prepared to witness and understand these emotions, conflict de-escalates and greater closeness becomes possible. Your therapist works with each of you to understand and accept these tender aspects of your partner’s experience so that you each become less reactive with one another and your bond becomes more secure.
